On Thursday, September 28th, we welcome innovative startups, corporates and governments to strengthen resilient Rotterdam. Rotterdam is one of 100 resilient cities .

A resilient city is ready to tackle 21st-century challenges that weaken the fabric of a city. Challenges that vary from shocks – like earthquakes and floods – to stressors such as high unemployment, overtaxed public transport or chronic food and water shortages.

By addressing these challenges, a city learns to be responsive to adverse events and evolves into an adaptable home to all populations, in both good and bad times.

During The Resilient City, we will focus a full day on water-, energy-, cultural-, social- & cyber resilience with expert speakers, panel discussions and plenty of networking. Locally as well as internationally!

The Resilient city takes place in CIC in Groothandels Gebouw, which is an icon to the rebuilding of Rotterdam. Join our program during StartupFest Europe and collaborate in interactive sessions to start pilot projects.

“Rotterdam has always shown resilience, but innovative cities remain successful by being future–driven, rather than coasting on past successes.”

– Mayor Aboutaleb

Venture Café Thursday Networking Gathering

  • 18:30-19:00 Millenial Preach
  • 19:00-20:00 Jan Peter Balkenende, Member of International Advisory Board of Rotterdam, on Culture and Social Resilience

Culture should be seen as one of the five strategic pillars (Economic, Social, Cultural, Infrastructural/spatial and environmental) on which urban planning is based. Art and culture should not only be seen as something on its own. Art & Culture contribute to social, economic and spatial development of a city. Arts & Culture can contribute to a more resilient city.

Rotterdam is a divers city, a city of change, of progress, of emancipation. This should be reflected in our cultural portfolio. If culture really contributes to inclusivity than we can be an example in the world.
