On September 28th we organized a full day event – The Resilient City – together with CICNoorderwind, VPdelta, Rijkswaterstaat & Gemeente Rotterdam.

During The Resilient City, we focused a full day on water-, energy-, cultural-, social- & cyber resilience with expert speakers, panel discussions and plenty of networking. Locally as well as internationally! A diverse community of 400 people joined the 11 different sessions on the topic of resilient cities!

The Resilient City took place in CIC in Groothandels Gebouw, which is an icon to the rebuilding of Rotterdam.

First time at Venture Café, what a wonderful place to meet up with an interesting crowd. The vibe of Venture Café felt like an after-work-drink in Lower Manhattan: exciting, fun and easy-going.

Caroline Pietermaat - Managing director at Hofplein Rotterdam

The Resilience City really opened up my eyes to the short- and long-term goals of Rotterdam. This initiative made me feel even more connected to the city and inspired to think of how we can all contribute to the city’s goals!

Ali Fenwick - Managing Partner at LEAD TCM&L

The Resilient City was a very inspiring event where startups showed their creative ideas to tackle urgent resilience challenges!

Wynand Dassen - Deputy Chief Resilience Officer, Resilience Team Gemeente Rotterdam

A resilient city is ready to tackle 21st-century challenges that weaken the fabric of a city. Challenges that vary from shocks – like earthquakes and floods – to stressors such as high unemployment, overtaxed public transport or chronic food and water shortages.

By addressing these challenges, a city learns to be responsive to adverse events and evolves into an adaptable home to all populations, in both good and bad times.

It was great to have a real discussion about Culture and Social Resilience. Good to see that the start-up community not only understand- but really embrace this idea. I am sure that the cultural community and the start-up community can really strengthen each other.

Siobhan Burger - Co-Founder ARTTENDERS

There was a good blend of ideas, objectives and organizations, bringing a foundation for network opportunities and fruitful connections. Resilience requires a view from multiple angles by people with different disciplines. Also, I met companies that will join our trade mission to South Africa!

Mirco Rossi - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Great audience. I hope to see some of them at the presentation of the recommendations of the IABX or in a later stage implementing the recommendations. The enthusiasm and quality of the ideas really can help to make cultural Rotterdam even stronger.
